Even if it may be still rather gray and chilly where you live, Spring is for sure just around the corner. Flowers be blooming, and bees be buzzing. So I thought today I thought it would be nice to share some tips for getting your makeup look and beauty routine into the spirit.
Do Up Only One Feature: Coco Chanel is famous for having given the fashion advice, "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off." This lesson the chicness of simplicity, to me, also applies so well to Springtime makeup. Personally, my base routine (foundation and concealer) stays pretty standard year-round and adapts instead to the needs and condition of my skin on the given day. But as far as the colored elements (eyes, lips, and blush), I definitely think it can look so elegant to play up one feature and do NOTHING else on the rest of the face. It is a way not only to keep the makeup looking, and even feeling, too heavy in the bright sunshine, but it also allows the way you do play up to really be the star and stand out. I find this especially true when working with brighter lipsticks or more overtly shimmery or colorful eyeshadows that particularly call to me come Spring.
Switch Up Your Fragrance: A light, fresh floral scent uplifts my mood like no other, and Springtime is the perfect time for those to make a resurgence. Even though I don't always like to encourage buying everything new on La Petite Rose, I have to say that one of my biggest temptations in Spring is to treat myself to a new floral-scented shower gel and even scope out a few new actual perfumes. So that is definitely something worth looking into if you are interested. For some tips on how to choose a new perfume (that can be applied to most other types of scented bodycare too), check out my article here.
Go for the Opposite Hairstyle to Your Signature: I've mentioned before that I am someone who habitually wears her hair up in either a claw or topknot or bun. But Spring is a great time to change things up, so I have really been feeling wearing my hair down loose with waves scrunched with a hair cream. On the other hand, if you wear your hair down a lot, it might be fun to play with updos or flirty ponytails. Or, if you have very short hair, you can easily amend your look to include sparkly bobby pins or wrapping your head in a brightly-colored or printed scarf to mark the new season. Sometimes, it only takes a simple accent or change to refresh your whole aesthetic vibe.
Springtime is the occasion for newness, birth, and growth in nature and, often, the world, and there's no reason why it cannot also be a special time of renaissance for our beauty lives as well, and even the most simple changes can be the best. Happy Spring, everyone and cheers to experimenting!
