We all know for glowing skin, shiny hair, and healthy bodies, one of the most crucial things we need to do is to make sure we consume enough water. Popular wisdom has long said that we should all be consuming 8 glasses of water each day, but emerging research is finding that how much water a person needs in a day is much more individualized due to body mass and lifestyle. Famed dermatologist and skincare brand founder Dr, Howard Murad (of Murad Skincare) has another theory about water consumption that might surprise you even more! Perhaps eating our water is better than drinking it.

What does he mean by "eating our water"? Well, since water is found in literally every being on this planet, trace amounts of water can in most every food item we can consume from leafy greens, root vegetables such as carrots, beans, and even meat. All of these foods are obviously also abundant in other nutrients required for a healthy body and support clear, healthy skin and all the other things we look for to improve our appearance by our diets. Water from a glass is simply just that. Water.

Saying this, drinking water will always be not only a good thing but something our body needs us to do. However, in an effort to amp up our hydration levels, Dr, Murad and many other medical experts suggests that it is possible to first overhydrate to only then become quickly dehydrated. In other words, chugging water only encourages the body to release it and release it quickly--so quickly body that none of our body's cell's, skin cells included have not had the chance to absorb any of the hydration that you have tried to put in them. Also, this excessive flushing of water will also deplete the body of nutrients too quickly. an Over time, drinking too much water and especially to quickly also lead to things such as lower body temperature, poorer circulation, and electrolyte imbalance as well as more sallow and dehydrated skin. Concentrating on taking more ample doses of water gradually through our food, however, allows the body to absorb with water much more readily and slowly, take what it needs, and get rid of the rest at a much more natural pace and preserve the nutrients it has received from the food and not flush them away immediately before they could be used.

So the next time you are filling up your liter bottle of water for the third time in a day, maybe consider opting for a meal of water-rich foods such like lettuce, bell peppers, any kind of fruit or cheese, or even broth to keep your body filled and hydrated for longer.
