I am a firm believer that there is no right or wrong way to wear makeup, and that is an abundance of product out their to suit everyone's preferences, needs, and lifestyle, On La Petite Rose, however, I recognize that a lot of my content speaks to those who like to deep dive into the beauty world and are always to see what is fresh and different. Today, though, I wanted to compile a list of my favorite types of products for the simplest yet most versatile makeup kit-- the products that can work for any occasion and could perhaps be the only products one would ever need, These items are great suggestions for those who are just getting into makeup, anyone who may be a little intimidated by makeup, or those who just want to develop a quick signature look to effortlessly carry them throughout their day, whatever it holds for them.
Face Base: When one looks at the spectrum of base products out there, there are quite a lot of different types of options to consider-- liquids, powders, creams, cream-to-powders. sheer coverage, full coverage, matte, dewy-- and it can be overwhelming. To give you the most versatile options in terms of coverage to adapt to your particular needs each day, I highly recommend BB and CC creams. These products are often like tinted moisturizers but usually are slightly less sheer and, therefore, can be built up more where needed while still provided a natural-looking finish. BB and CC creams have skincare ingredients such as extra moisturizers, color correction and firming ingredients, and SPF often cooked into their formulas as well. One of my favorite options for this type of product is IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream ($39.50 USD) . It is available in both in the original (semi-matte finish) and a dewy version, so you can pick the finish you prefer or based on your skin type. The formula is packed with extra skincare including firming peptides and nourishing B Vitamins and hydrating hyaluronic acid. And no matter how much you put on, the feel of the product is silky and breathable. The product comes in 12 shades currently but that span across a wide variety of skintones as well as undertones for a more precise shade match. It blends easily with the fingers as well as a brush or makeup sponge, so you can use whatever method you like and get the same smooth application every time.
Eyes: I love the idea of having one eye shadow palette, large or small of neutral colors. These kind of eyeshadow kit is by far the most versatile, allowing you to go for a barely there look one day and to experiment with a smoky eye the next. Also, with the color scheme being neutral, it is easy for shadows to double as brow defining products and as a soft or smoky eyeliner when dragged across the lashline, eliminating the need for more specific, dedicating products.
Though these kinds of eyeshadows are available from nearly every brand at every price point, I usually do find that eyeshadow is an area where I do prefer higher-end options to lower-cost ones for just generally better pigmentation throughout the shades in the palette and a more easily blendable formula. Among my favorites are Bareminerals eyeshadows, and they do a host of beautiful neutral palettes with their silky blendable formula that can be soft or built up to be dramatic with little to no effort. Their newer Bounce and Blur Eyeshadow Palettes $29 USD (in Dawn- a cooler-toned option, and Dusk- a warmer-toned option) offer a curated selection of five shadows in perfect neutral shades to really go anywhere and do any kind of look you could want. I also especially appreciate the limited number shades in these and most other Bareminerals palettes, it takes the guesswork out of color coordinating, and you get the most out of every shade.
The only other eye product I would absolutely recommend for completing your go-to kit would be a mascara. Overall, I tend to prefer lengthening mascaras to strictly thickening or volumizing ones because lengthening ones tend to be the most natural-looking but also layer up well with multiple coats without clumping up as easily as a thickening mascara might. A great option for this type of mascara is my tried- and- true Glossier Lash Slick ($16 USD) , but any mascara you choose in either a black or dark brown will definitely serve this purpose.
Cheeks: In the land of blush, highlight, and contour, cheek products are another area of makeup that can easily get overwhelming. One tip I've discovered for sidestepping all of that is a neutral blush. Blushes in a brown-based pink of a medium terracotta peachm, for examples, tend to be quite natural-looking and flattering across many skin tones, and because of their usually more brownish base, these kinds of colors can also perform subtle contouring when applied just underneath the cheek bones or act as a subtle bronzer when blended around the perimeter of the face. Cream or powder formulas can be equally good, but I have to say that I have been loving cream blushes in these kinds of colors especially lately. Brands such as Benefit, Stila, and Physicians Formula are particularly known for making a good liquid or cream cheek product. One of my personal favorites are also the Argan Color Sticks by Josie Maran ($22) formulated with argan, moringa, lemon tree oil, and other natural oils and waxes, these color sticks glide on smoothly yet also have a quality that allows them to effortlessly set in place, and as a bonus, these large sticks can also double as a hydrating, tenacious lipbalm, as there is plenty of product for both functions, making it a perfect thing to take in your bag for easy touch-ups.
Lips: Speaking of lips, lipcolor is definitely an area where one can effortlessly add color into their makeup look and play with texture and finish. However, if I were searching for a universally-appropriate, go-to lip product, I would choose either a tinted lip balm in a sheer red shade to add a flush of color to the lips, or I would opt for a rosy-brown shade in a cream lipstick formula such as Revlon SuperLustrous Lipstick in Berry Rich. ($8.49 USD) Not only are these shades flattering on most every skintone (the often appear browner, more berry, or more mauve depending on your skintone, transforming to your perfect "your lips but better" color), the look they provide is defined but never too much, making it a great kind of shade to keep on hand because it will transition easily from a day at the office to the evening out afterwards and every other time in between.
A go-to simple makeup collection with reliable, easy-to-apply (and even some multi-use) can make all the difference in enhancing your getting ready process each day and also open up the door to the fun and exciting world that is beauty. But whether the suggestions become your entry point or the signature look that becomes your signature trademark, I know that you will be looking fabulous all day, every day,
