As much fun as it is to try new makeup items and to have a wide array of colors and items to choose from, there is a lot to be said for the products that can give you the most polished effect with the least amount of effort. Truth be known, if I absolutely had to, I could whittle down my makeup collection to just three types of products and come out with a full face every single time. They would be:

Liquid Concealer: Pigments in a liquid concealer formulas are often more densely concentrated than their foundation counterparts. This means while they can be used as intended in camouflaging small but prominent areas of pigmentation. the can also be be buffed out over larger expanses of the face too for an evening effect. As an added bonus concealer formulas, also due to their greater density, tend to be longer lasting and stay in place better better than liquid foundations and also tend to stay truer to color and not darken (through oxidation) when exposed to sunlight.

Lipliner: Though I personally prefer twist-up pencils, both the sharpenable and non-sharpenable varieties are some of the most tenacious products you will ever apply to the lips. By design, the function of a lipliner is to create a seal or a border around the mouth to keep you lipstick from bleeding outside the lips and to better stay in place after eating and drinking. But lipliners can also be worn just as easily on their own on the full lips, providing tenacious and richly pigmented color that hugs the lips and stays in place. Most modern lipliner formulas as of the last five years or so have also become much creamier and easier to apply across the whole mouth and are even more comfortable than a lot of matte bullet lipsticks out there and especially longwearing liquid lipstick.

Black Eyeshadow: It may seem shocking at first, but if I could own only one shade of eyeshadow, I would choose a matte black. Buffed out across the eyelid, the strong pigment can be diffused to make a quick but impactful one-shadow smoky eye. Pushed into the upper and lower lashlines, it doubles as an eyeliner, and, when dampened, it can be stroked through the lashes with a brow and lash comb to replace a mascara. For more detail on how to do this technique along with some other quick and easy makeup tricks,, check out this article here. Also, with a very, very light hand, black eyeshadow can also be used for some subtle darkening of the brow hairs and filling in gaps too, just make sure to adjust your pressure for a lighter or deeper effect depending on your haircolor and quickly swipe away any excess before the powder will bind to the brow hairs.

Variety in makeup and having different products for specialized functions definitely comes in handy. Yet, it is still really informative also useful to unlock with hidden potentials and complete capabilities of our items whether we are looking to get out the door in a hurry, streamline our beauty collections, or just enjoying trying something new.
