Ranavat is gorgeously presented line of Green Beauty skincare that seeks to blend founder Michelle Ranavat’s vision of “modern alchemy and romance”. A first generation American, her family immigrated from Jaipur, Indian to Wisconsin, Michellet used her studies and business and science and combined them with her respect of botanicals and reverence for traditional Indian ceremony self-care practices and ritual to create a brand that makes Its customers feel like pampered royalty. And the Luminous Ceremony Cleanser is where one such ritual can begin.
I first tried the Luminous Ceremony Cleanser during the midsummer when my skin was starting to feel mildly out of balance. Namely, it was feeling kind of dry and depleted (likely dehydrated as well) and just further irritated by the sun and heat. Though the air where I live is always quite humid for the most part and especially so during summer, I was just feeling drained of glow and a bit raw. But at the same time, I wanted lightweight textured products to keep me skin from feeling—or even becoming—overly heavy or congested if I went too heavyhanded with moisturizing products So I decided to focus on making my mandatory cleansing process an extra gentle and reparative treat while still making sure to get the summer grime and grime anytime off the surface of my skin. And the Luminous Ceremony Cleanser could not have been a better fit for this.
As kind of symbolized by its pretty mauve-pink tube, the Luminous Ceremony Cleanser offers up a fresh, clean feeling and clean smelling take on rose. Rose is a great ingredient for smoothing the skin and calming redness while also having some toning and rebalancing properties. In general, it seems to be beneficial for most ages and skin types out there and its purported properties of calming and rebalancing really were the ticket for my skin here. My skin upon first use felt cooled and refreshed but not to to the point where my pores felt too tight. Also, the minor flaking I had begun to experience on my chin had also gone down.
This I think has all not just to do with the Rose itself or the other ingredients but the lightweight cream that is this product. Though I have dry skin, I tend to favor mostly gel cleansers because I want to make sure I get them off completely before I put on other skincare steps , but also I feel I want proof that my face has been clean, which is a sense I find hard to come by in a lot of cream cleansers. This one, however, is truly a breeze to rinse off and you feel fresh and somehow “nourished” through the whole process of using it as you massage and as you rinse it off or remove it with a cloth.
Other key ingredients in this formula include a base of light yet conditioning sesame oil and a powerful Indian herb called manjistha, which is known as a superfood that removes impurities from the system and is thus the primary cleansing agent. It does seem to clear the pores well, but ultimately does not leave me with that squeaky clean sensation. For my skin and where it is at, this is a great compromise and the perfect balance and will be even more so in the colder winter months to come, but those with oilier skin might prefer a deeper clean or at least a deeper clean sensation than what this leaves. That said, a little still goes a long way with this cleanser for it to do its job. And when mixed with water, the milk it works into really does provide decent, nonsoapy lather that I think would break down most light to medium coverage base makeup. For the eyes, I use something different because of the rose essential oil included in the product. The smell it gives off is mild and very fresh and clean, not at all the thick syrupy rose in a lot of fragrances nor the powdery rose smell found in a lot of skincare or bath products, but it is still not something I like to use directly on the eye area.
