Longwearing liquid lipstick is a category of makeup that I have not had much success with over the years. They always seem like the perfect solution to one of my biggest makeup problems, which is that I love to wear bold lipcolors but don't like when they wear away so noticeably throughout the day. But liquid lipsticks seem to be a solution that is better in theory than in practice. They are so drippy and messy to apply without straying outside of the lipine, and they are often so full of alcohol in order to get that tenacious, matte finish, that my lips crack and feel parched within hours.

This was the case until I discovered the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. These cute tubes offer a formula with extreme plushness and good longevity. As their name implies the finish is matte straight from the tube. You also do not have to wait for these products to drydown, and they retain a pillowy cushiony feel all throughout its wear. The formula, while not completely transfer-proof, is very hearty and will weather through any standard meal with next to disruption to the overall look of the lipstick. If however, you eat something exceptionally oil, be that a salad with oil and vinegar dressing or something fried, you may find that the formula does wear down. Luckily, unlike most longwearing lipcolors, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams layer super easily upon themselves and do not flake off or ball up as the new layers are applied.

Though matte, this formula really leaves the lips both looking and feeling soft and smooth. It doesn't settle into find lines or accentuate any dry patches. It is not not a hydrating formula by any means, but it will not leave your lips worse off than they were in terms of moisture.

The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams currently comes in a whopping shades that encompass everything from soft nudes, to pretty pinks, bold rich colors, and even some grungy hues like green and gray. Among the several I've tried, I have noticed little to no difference in the quality of wear from shade to shade. My favorite shades include. Prague a mid toned magenta pink, Copenhagen, a vampy cranberry, London,a brownish beige nude, Toulouse a purpley mauve with taupe gray undertones. Budapest a deep plummy rose that I think would look great on virtually everyone, and Rome a rusty red mauve Some of the darkest shadesin the lineup like Transylvania, a bluish blackberry, need to be applied a bit more carefully to get an even coat, as the darkest ones end to be a bit more sheer. But with some layering, the color is both gorgeous and longlasting.

In most places, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams sell for about $6.50 USD each. As always with drugstore-priced ranges, the price can vary greatly depending on where you shop. But they are a great affordable option for beautiful colors that are comfortable to wear and will withstand most of the day's adventures without much need for a touch-up. I hope you will give them a go!
