Combining the city chicness of New York and the crafted luxury of Italian-made goods Laura Geller remains one of my all-time favorite color cosmetic brands. Today, I’m going to share about my latest obsession both from the brand and of the current moment in general—their Jelly Balms.
At first glance, the Jelly Balms seem like any standard slanted tip lipstick, nice, but nothing all that remarkable But let me tell you, they are total gamechangers. I have been struggling so much with dry lips this Spring and Summer, especially in the beginning when allergies were at their peak. These were the only lip colors I ever felt like wearing. The texture feels like a thin layer of the smoothest, softest frosting floating across the lips. The best part? Though it feels very smooth and is wonderfully hydrating (have been known to wear some of these even overnight to bed and my lips feels super plump and supple come the morning) these are not overly slick and not at all sticky. They also manage to hug the lipline and stay in place much better than most of the typical balmy lipsticks and certainly the true lip balms out there. I suspect that this might be due to the inclusion of some kaolin clay in the formula, which I have found with other formulas helps them to be more adherent but without being as uncomfortable as other wear-assisting ingredients.
With balmy lipsticks, I usually expect the color to be quite sheer or translucent, as you usually have to sacrifice formula comfort for color payoff and vice versa, but such is not the case with these. These balms are full-color, highly-pigmented and just overall stunning. I own two of the five shades currently in the range-- Sugar and Spice (a light neutral-to-slightly-cool pale pink, note this shade seems to be exclusively sold on QVC and the QVC website) and Brick House (a warm brownish red with a wine undertone, which seems to be available both on QVC and the Laura Geller official website). There is also Just Peachy ( a tawny peachy pink), Figger than Life (a dusty berry-pink rose), In the Buff (a neutral pink) , and Jammin' (a muted slightly deep cool plum berry). All of these colors are well-mixed and seem to be fairly neutral in their undertones, so each shade will likely look lovely across the board of skintones and undertones. Despite hem being called "jelly" balms the finish of the shades, while being super smooth is not all that glossy. Personally, i like this quality, but if you would like a shiny finish, these colors are so silky that I am sure they would blend perfectly with a similarly-colored or clear or metallic gloss to add some shine, slickness, and glitz.
If you are looking for a sumptuous and indulgent lipstick that feels as beautiful as it looks, I recommend giving Laura Geller's Jelly Balms, a go. The brand does color cosmetics and most especially lipsticks so well, but to me, this is their most standout formula to date. I could not be more over the moon with these. The Jelly Balms retail currently for $21 each USD on LauraGeller.com. Or you can also find them in specially curated duos and kits for limited time prices and deals on QVC and QVC.com.
