Product Review: L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara

L'Oreal Voluminous mascara has been around for more than three decades now and remains a favorite of makeup artists and makeup lovers alike. Personally, this is a mascara that I rely on most for stage makeup and really special evenings out, but certainly it can be worn in the everyday too with just a single coat.

When built up with two coats, however, the effect is truly awesome. This mascara is one that truly gives me the "doll eye" effect, making the lashes super lush and full. It is as if my lashes have doubled upon themselves from underneath but still have the most delicate, feathery sweep to them. I don't like volumizing mascaras that create a spidery effect or that dry too hard and make the lashes look and feel like they are made of rubber or plastic. But this never has done that, even when the tube starts to dry out.

For a volumizing mascara, it is not heavy on the lashes and it has never once smeared or flaked on me, so I trust this formula and wear it confidently. Even though I prefer the non waterproof version to ensure easy removal, this formula still holds up tenaciously and with no ;ash primer underneath. If, however, you like using a lash primer but find that the white pigment still tends to show through any mascara you put on top of it, L'oreal Voluminous would be a great one to try because, no matter which shade you pick, the pigment is very rich and dense. There is a good variety of shades including three variations of black (the darkest being Carbon Black and my favorite), but they also have a beautiful brown, a really rich burgundy, and a really pretty cobalt blue. None of these colors are bold in nature and have a strong black base, so they really just provide a hint of the shade when the light hits your lashes, So if you are interested in dipping your toe into the world of colored mascara (or need one for a costume but don't want to look too over-the-top), these could be a nice start.

Fluttery, thick dramatic lashes are the fastest way to enhance the flair of any look. I rarely found find a volumizing mascara that provides as much of an impact to the lashes that is so widely available and at such an affordable price. If you want to try a true living legend of the makeup world, stop by your local drugstore or super market , and pick up a tube of L'oreal Voluminous. Currently, it is sold at a range from about $6-10 USD, depending on where you buy it.
