Product Review: Khus Khus Lemon Body Potion

Khus Khus is a brand that has really come into its own in my affections recently as I am experimenting more with both their face and bodycare. But for those of us not only struggling with dry skin this winter but also needing of a soothing pick-me-up, the Khus Khus Lemon Body might be my top choice for remedy at this moment.

When you first open the jar of the Lemon body potion you are greeted with the sweetest shade of lightly honeyed lemon yellow. This alone puts a smile upon my face. The cream is smooth at first touch, but has a definite bit of heft to it. It is very smooth and glassy, but the tactile feel of it is very velvet and could almost, in a way, be considered waxy in that it definitely encourages and allows for time spent massaging it in to wherever you apply it. But as I have been using it, I notice how well hydrated and firm my skin looks and even has the slightest bit of sheen to it, which is hard to achieve on my exceptionally, chronically dry skin anytime but most especially in winter. I think the brightening element does come from the lemon extract in here but probably even more so from the seabuckthorn oil as well as the alma berry and elderberry extracts, all plants known to have high amounts of Vitamin C, helping the skin to look radiant and stay firm as well as possibly provide protection from outside environmental irritants.

The formula does take a bit of working to fully dissipate, but the pain and tightness of dry skin is kept to totally at bay the minute you begin the massage And as the cream melts into your skin, the true magic is unleashed. This stuff has the best, most therapeutic smell I have experienced in a bodycare item in a longtime. It is calming to both my mind, my sinuses, and even to my muscles as I massage it in, it seems. Truly, the scent and the product on the whole defines what it means for something to be aromatherapeutic!

The smell is a gorgeously balanced combination of lemon and sandalwood mixed with the lightest touch of peppery Bulgarian Rose. Though the scent is powerful and grounding, it is not at all strong and is wonderfully balanced. The lemon is fresh and tart but is not overly sour. It actually leans slightly towards the sweet side but without being candylike or sugary in the least. Sandalwood provides a rounded base that is definitely woodsy but that is not overly dominating, and I would imagine that even those who are not normally attracted to woodsy smells would find this one enjoyable. Same goes for the Bulgarian rose as this is not a rose-forward of even floral fragrance in the slightest, it just adds some soft dimension and a slight floral sweetness and subtle kick of spice to the mix, but all in all the note, and the whole fragrance, reads to me as very gender neutral and approachable, leaving just a whisper of an impression of itself coming off your skin all day. That said, I do think that if you use this, pairing it with other perfumes during the day could be challenging because the scent, though faint, lasts a long time. I could see it pairing well with other woody fragrances, but otherwise, I reserve this for nighttime use or for non perfume wearing days, and if I commit to wearing this as my fragrance for a day, I relish using this as a hand cream to constantly renew the smell post-handwashing.

But whether you're applying it to the hands or the body, bear in mind that a little of this goes an exceptionally long way. Due to its initially stiffer consistency, it really spreads more and more as you work it in and diffuses more than you may expect across the skin. This and the formula being so packed with the skin and soul-recharging ingredients (the same extracts which make up its amazing scent) make the skin smooth and palpably stop for hours, and sometimes I would even say days, on end. It is such a treat to breathe in, slip on, and indulge.

For a product that is truly a pleasure to the senses as well as the skin, I cannot recommend the body potion from Khus Khus more readily. It is truly warming away any winter dullness, chill , and grayness from my life, and, if you try it, I hope it will for you too. You can purchase a 6.7 oz jar of it for $88 at the Khus Khus official website as well as Shop.Beauty-Heroes.com.
