If there was ever a makeup item that truly spoke to me of extra special fun, glitz, and unusual glamour, it is Flower Beauty's Jungle Lights eyeshadow palette. These textured, twinkly shadows have totally rebirthed my desire for decorating my eyes with color, a phenomena that I have been searching for ever since before the inception of La Petite Rose three years ago. Sidenote: My makeup look for Christmas Day last year featured this eyeshadow palette, and I cannot wait to repeat this on the big day this year. So for the grand finale of dedicated product reviews for 2021, I want to tell you all about it!

The Jungle Lights palette is a collection of six large pans of shimmery eyeshadows. The color story is that of softened brights, a rainbow shining at midnight if you will and one that is dressed to the nines, or else, as the name implies a jungle sunset. The colorstory is unusual compared to what I've seen on the market combining cool-toned champagnes with plums but with pops of red and green. Truly, I think any one who loves colorful eyeshadow will be intrigued and those, like myself, who are not always immediately inclined to put anything but neutrals on our eyes will be inspired to break tradition.

The six colors are as follows:

Amazon: A rich true gold with shimmer.

Anaconda: A rich medium green with flashes of gold shimmer.

Tiger Lily: A metallic cherry-toned copper.

Paradise: a shimmery champagne ivory with frosty shimmer

Jaguar: a deep grape purple-plum with pink shimmer

Wild: a mauve rose gold with silver sparkle.

You may have noticed from reading the color descriptions that this palette is very shimmery and contains no matte shadows, but of course, you can supplement the palette by adding in any matte black or dark brown or other deep matte tone to offset the look. Still, I have personally loved the challenge of creating an all-shimmer eye look. And the darker tones such as Tiger Lily (the red shade) and Jaguar (the plum) can really be built up to smoke out a look or provide deepening balance to ground their own shimmery finishes or those of the lighter colors. The shadows themselves are pigmented enough to give rich, true-to-pan color payoff on the skin, but are not so pigmented that they are stiff or tricky to blend. In fact, these are some of creamiest powder shadows I have ever touched. In fact, I do prefer applying most all of these shades by patting them and mixing them around with my fingers rather than use brushes because the shine of the shadows sometimes gets taken down with brushes.

With these soft rich shadows it is important to remember that a little does go along way in terms of making an impact and blending out the other shades. A word of warning though: these shadows are quite soft and can be prone to shattering, so I would not store this palette on any kind of shelf if I could help it. Also, their creamy, foiled, almost slick quality means that this palette will have a fairly short shelf life in my experience, so be sure to use this one diligently when you buy or if you have a lot of eyeshadow, I would say skip this one until you clear out some room in your collection.

The positive side to these shadows buttery feel is that they cling very nicely to my eyelids and with surprisingly little fallout-- considering how shimmery they are-- and they don't ever really bunch up or crease on me. But I do have dry skin and am not that prone to creasing, so if this is a common issue for you, any kind of eyeshadow primer or some sticky or emollient base should work beautifully with these and also will give an ever richer, purer application of each color when apply to your skin. If you want to get that extra-powerful color punch, but don't have an eye base on hand, these shadows also perform gorgeously when applied with a dampened brush or finger, and this method also makes the shimmers meld more into the colors for a more gleaming effect, especially in a look when more than one color is used together.

Flower Beauty's Jungle Lights palette is truly a product that has made me rediscover the fun of artistry in makeup. It is a feast of color and texture that can be glitzy, glamourous, or just plain fun to play with and to wear. It certainly is a great piece of makeup to dig out for any Holiday party or fun evening event you might be preparing for this Holiday and otherwise, but it also is a great gift idea for anyone who loves color or who may be looking to add some pizazz to their makeup life. The quality of this is impeccable, and I relish continuing to play with this and, as this is my first item from Flower Beauty, I have to say I will be intrigued to try more from their line very, very soon! You can purchase the Jungle Lights palette for $17.99 USD currently on either Flowerbeauty, com or at Ulta onlne only at Ulta.com.
