DHC is a skincare brand that I've been recently getting into, largely from a recommendation from my best friend and sister. I had not heard much about the brand but had regularly seen their Deep Cleansing Oil featured in many "best of" or "skincare must-have" lists in magazines and social media. But when she tried and raved about it, I knew I immediately wanted to give it a go for myself.
Contrary to what one might expect for someone with very dry skin, I have not tried many oil cleansers or using many oils as a cleanser for my face. When I have , though, I've been underwhelmed usually not feeling very clean afterward and having my eyes blurry if not also stinging when using them to remove eye makeup. The DHC Cleansing Oil, however, is a perfect answer for those who want to dabble in oil cleansing but without any of the drawbacks.
The primary ingredient of this cleanser is a rich, unctuous olive oil, an ingredient that has been used across cultures throughout history for its benefits in balancing, toning, rehydrating, and preserving the youthful bounce to the skin. The olive oil here certainly lives up to its reputation, feeling rich and almost creamy but not at all greasy or slimy. Though this product is only a cleanser and, therefore stays on the skin only for a short while, my skin feels EXTRA soft, plump, and firm and bouncy after using. If I am in a real hurry, especially in the morning if I use this cleanser, I often forget to follow it with any moisturizer or other hydrating products anytime soon afterwards. This is extremely rare for me since even after using the most gentle of cleansers, my skin still is ready and needing of moisturizer with in seconds of rinsing. With the DHC, however, I it can easily slip my mind. Luckily, my skin remains happy and plump and glowing..
The rest of the formula is very simple and straightforward containing mainly containing Vitamin E oil (tocopherol) for added moisture and rosemary leaf oil for toning and gentle, mild clarifying and to use as a preserving agent. What I really appreciate here though is that the cleanser also contains some gentle emulsifiers which help to give the cleanser some substance and thickness as you move it around the face and make it really lovely when mixed with water to help it soak into the skin to cleanse and then rinse away cleanly and easily without leaving a greasy or sticky film.
As well as this cleanser combines with water, though, I always initially apply this to dry skin and massage. Massaging helps support lymphatic drainage and tones and boosts circulation in skin, and for removing makeup having this straight oil mix in with the oils from my skin and also the makeup itself, really helps the makeup breakdown quickly and effectively. Arguably, this is the best and quickest makeup remover I have ever used, and it works beautifully on the eyes too with absolutely NO stinging or blurring. I think the fact that there are no scented essential oils here or strong smells from any kind is what makes it so easy on the eyes and what, also, would make it a great and effortless choice for any skin type.
In short, the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil defied and exceeded all my expectations and has singlehandedly turned me into an oil cleansing lover for life. I also received a sample in my order of the Deep Pore Cleansing Oil, which is very similar and also wonderful but has grapefruit and other citrus acids for more of a brightening and oil-balancing effect. That also worked great for me, but I think it would be a real treat for an oilier skin type who may shy away from the thought of using an oil cleanser. All I can say is I'm super impressed and cannot wait to try and tell about more from this brand. You can find the Deep Cleansing Oil at stores such as Dermstore, Ulta, and the DHC website. The standard size is 6.7 oz for $28 USD, but the DHC sight also offers 1 oz and 2.3 oz sizes for $5.50 and $14 respectively, perfect for travelling and testing.
