Danessa Myricks is a new-to-me line of makeup founded and created by makeup artist Danessa Myricks both her line and her work feature dynamic colors and textures and vibrant (and often unusual) color and textures and combinations that really inspire the viewer and user to touch, feel, create, and play with makeup. Many, if not all, of her products quite interestingly are said to work equally for both eyes, cheeks, and lips, further encouraging this atmosphere of play and breaking down what makeup essentially is to me-- paint for the face. I am also impressed by the wealth of multi-dimensional finishes and very finely-tuned complex colors present in all of the products in the range. Not only does it show that the line was born of a true artist but also offers incredible diversity, giving representation to every person (and every taste imaginable).
I have to admit that when I first came to try this brand, I was a bit overwhelmed by trying to decide which of the array of lovely-looking, unique, and dynamic products to try first, so there are many still to get on my list that could very likely be featured in articles and reviews to come. But I ultimately decided to try what I feel may be the cornerstone of the brand-- the ColorFix Foils
Packaged in simple squeeze tubes, ColorFix foils are like squeezable paints for the face. All shades (over 30 available can be used on the eyes, lips, and cheeks alike. There are no rules as this product, I feel, hearkens back to the true creativity and editorial, stylized version of makeup we see in magazines and on the runway, but by no means is this product a stranger to the everyday makeup wearer and those kinds of looks. There are three different finishes to this product: matte, metallic, and the even more reflective high-shine. Though they all look amazing, I must admit the metallics intrigued me the most and seem to have the broadest of broad color ranges based on the ones available on the Sephora website. In that finish, though there is a generous smattering of mermaid teals and jeweltone bold purples and neon flamingo pinks and yellows and other fun hues, there are plenty of neutrals too such as matte black (that I think would double beautifully as a rich, inky cream eyeliner when applied with a liner brush), and many a taupe and brown and rosy pinks and champagnes. Ballerina for example would be a perfect twinkly version of a no-makeup, makeup look while the slightly deeper and more plummy Romance or the warmer Seashell would likely provide the same effects for deeper skin and could be equally beautiful on eyes cheeks and lips Alien a rich coppery rose foil is an excellent rich tone that I think would be especially beautiful for Fall. The list just goes on.
For my first go around, I chose the shade Titanium, which is a gorgeously rich and shimmery metallic silver-pewter with some gold reflects, and even some shifts of green as the shimmers play in the light. I chose this shade as I thought it would be the perfect complement to my classic, standard gray smoky eye standard to add some pizazz and subtle color dimension. And it did NOT disappoint in the least. I use it mainly as an inner corner highlight to add some textural variety to my matte powder shadows, and i am so pleased to say that this wet, creamy product layers beautifully overtop and next to the powders without creasing itself or causing the powder shadows to crease. The product is pigmented and a little goes a long way, however, i love sheering out a small finger smear of this across the lid with a brush (synthetic haired ones tend to work best with creams like this) and I get this gorgeous glow across the eyes. Applied on its own, the shimmery and multidimensional and greenish tones of this unusual color pop even more, and this has actually become a staple for quick makeup days as it is so easy to apply and smudge in. I just feel extra arty while i do it, which adds some quick fun to my day even when I am rushing out the door. It just goes to show that you can have a glamourous, creative look that may be outside of your norm but without any great efforts or time involved. And I cannot wait to play with even more shades.
In short, this little tube of paint has totally changed my everyday eye makeup and the way I am approaching makeup on the whole. It's such a thrill! I am intrigued to try more from the Danessa Myricks range, but if you are looking to unleash your inner artist, the ColorFix Foil Eye, Lip, and Cheek Creams might just be one such product to help you along. You can purchase them for $20 USD each at Sephora.com, Beautylish, and the Danessa Myricks official site.
