As someone with very sensitive, reactive skin, I have to be especially careful about what I use and try in skincare. Some things have been great. With others, my skin has completely revolted in peeling, breakouts, rashes, you name it. While we all want affordable options we can rely on especially for something we use as regularly as skincare, but unfortunately, the products that my skin agrees with tend to be on the pricier side and more difficult to find. Aveeno, however, is one brand that consistently has products that are both affordable and easy to find that work well for my skin. My most recent discovery from them has been their Absolutely Ageless Nourishing Cleanser.
The Absolutely Ageless Nourishing Cleanser comes in a pump bottle and is a gel consistency. It's sulfate free, but does create bubbles when rubbed between the hands and emulsified with water because of the cocamidopropyl betaine in the formula. This ingredient is derived from coconut oil found in a lot of cleansers and shampoos produces a gentle lather without the drying effects of a soap that truly foams. People with dry skin like me will appreciate a gentle cleanser that still offers a fresh and clean feeling, and those with oily skin will like this as a mild alternative to a harsher foaming cleanser.
For those who wear sheer coverage foundation or only concealer as their base, one pump is really all you need to remove your makeup. If you're wearing a full face of makeup or fuller coverage foundation, you'll need to use maybe about 3 to 4 pumps to ensure all of the makeup is taken off, or else use this cleanser for your face after removing the makeup. Because of the Vitamin C (great for anti-aging), fragranced ingredients, and the gentle lathering agents in here, you will need a separate remover for eye makeup.
Instead of using retinol, this cleanser approaches anti-aging through the use of ingredients high in antioxidants which help to fortify the skin barrier and ward off pollutants, something that skin at any age can benefit from. In this case, the antioxidant comes from blackberry leaf extract. The blackberry leaf extract along with dill also give this cleanser a pleasant herbal smell.
Overall, I find the Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Cleanser a really nice, readily available option for a gentle, refreshing cleanser. As with many brands that you find either at your local drugstore or supermarket, the price of this item does vary. For my bottle, I paid $7.99 USD, excluding tax. The bottle contains 5 ounces of product, and since I usually only use one pump at a time, I think it will last all summer at least if not longer. For a lovely, fresh, effective facial cleanser for summer and beyond, I recommend giving this one a try.
