I talk a lot about Green Beauty (natural beauty, clean beauty, eco-friendly beauty-- whatever you want to call it) here on La Petite Rose as it has been a passion of mine for the last several years in my beauty-loving life and just keeps growing. I notice, though, that while there is a proliferation of Green Beauty or more cleanly-formulated skincare items mentioned here, I talk about Green Beauty makeup less frequently. In truth, I find that there are some issues I have personally with a lot more eco-friendly makeup products out there such as their base products sometimes don't offer as wide a shade range (lighter and deeper) or have has much representation in the complexity of undertones as some conventional counterparts have. Many of the color ranges in eco beauty seem to offer mostly muted and often warmer-toned colors in lip and blush shades where I prefer brighter colors and have a cooler complexion. And a lot of times, I have issues with eye makeup running in eco-beauty. However, I would like to spotlight some products that are not only relied upon gems but also answer well to these concerns.
Bareminerals Multi-tasking Concealer and Original Mineral Foundation ($22- $32 USD) : While the brand may be a bit more well-known and mainstream, Bareminerals mineral powder foundations and concealers remain a very clean formula overall and is my best answer for versatile, adjustable coverage base products. They are lightweight and a little product goes a long way in terms of coverage and the finish of both products is neither overly matte and cakey nor seems at all dewy. It just looks like real skin. (If you prefer an overtly matte finish the foundation also is sold in a specifically matte formula for the same price as the Original Mineral foundation) As far as the shade selection is concerned, the products are not only very forgiving in terms of how the work on skin due to their blendability, but the foundation itself comes in over 30 shades, and the concealer, though only having 6, still covers a broad range of both over and undertones all in a raw mineral based formula. Bareminerals is also carried widely making it easy to find at Sephora, Ulta, QVC, and of course, their own website Bareminerals.com.
Lily Lolo Vegan Mascara ($19.50 USD): I mentioned before that I have repeatedly had issues with Green Beauty eye makeup having no lasting power and running all over the place and therefore, despite the more natural ingredients, actually serving to irritate my eyes more than spare them irritation, and no other product type presents this issue more for me than natural mascaras. I have already mentioned how much I love and rate Ilia's Limitless Lash Mascara as a high impact lengthening option and the recent launch of Jones Road Beauty The Mascara for its curling properties, but another great one, offering a slightly more natural look at a lower price point than these two s Lily Lolo's Vegan Mascara.
Though this formula contains lash nourishing oils such as argan and rosehip seed, there doesn't seem to be as much of these conditioning ingredients in the formula compared to similar mascaras, and because of this the formula not only stays in place but also sets very, very quickly but is not prone to flaking either. The result of this product is just very well-lifted, long, and even curly lashes that rival and outlast any lashes crimped with an eyelash curler (or at least the effect I get with my own), and I LOVE the brush a very standard, stiff natural bristle brush that reaches all the way back to the base of your lashes as you stroke through to the tips. This creates an exyta sweepy lash-- really lifted and curled but also pretty long. There isn't so much volume provided with this one (Lily Lolo also makes a volumizing mascara that seems to get good reviews that I might try in future), but it does offer some. The effects are honestly quite comparable to my beloved Glossier Lash Slick, so if you like that mascara or are curious about it, this may be another to look at. You can find the Lily Lolo Vegan Mascara at many Green Beauty boutique websites such as Shop-Beauty Heroes.com and Credobeauty, com.
Kosas Weightless Color Lipstick ($28 USD): Kosas is an artist-founded makeup brand, and it really shows in the sophistication and uniqueness of the shades chosen for their color cosmetics. This is definitely true of their Weightless Color lipsticks (read full review here) offering 9 complex colors specifically formulated to look fitting and unique across all skintones and undertone colorings. My personal favorite shade is Darkroom, described as a bordeaux shade, and seeing it on many people, it certainly has a range of looking like everything from a brown crimson to a deep wine purple to, on me, a deep blue-toned red with a slight berry twinge. But if deep lipcolors aren't your thing, there are many variations of more neutral and pinkier shades as well as few true reds and brighter colors to go around. The formula is also super longlasting and a comfortable satin matte formula with only a slight sheen that can be tampered down with a blot if that is your preference, and there is also a lovely natural vanilla scent to them as well. You can find these at many eco-beauty boutiques and sites as well as on Sephora.com and select Sephora store and also the Kosas Cosmetics official website.
One of the things I love about the world of Green Beauty is when it truly proves that cleaner, more natural ingredients can perform just as brilliantly and be just as beautiful as any other beauty product out their in the conventional makeup and skincare space. These three products definitely are worthy of that distinction, and I am happily going to be ever- continuing my journey to find more!
