Hardly anything excites me more than seeing the first burst of flowers bloom in my yard each Spring. Their colors and freshness invigorate me and bring me such a special joy. Likewise, there are certain products out there that also mimic those feelings and turn, naturally, into my Spring must-haves.
L'occitane en Provence Cherry Blossom Shower Gel ($22 USD for 8 oz bottle at loccitane.com) A recent love on this list is the Cherry Blossom shower gel from L'occitane. It is a lovely low-foam nondrying body wash delicately perfumed with the gorgeous smell of budding cherry blossoms. This timeless, feminine smell makes me feel so relaxed and dainty and refreshed and ready to start my day, and the whisper of cedarwood that seems to peek out from underneath the florals adds a slight touch of earthiness to round it out but without at all compromising the airy flowering goodness. It is such a treat.
Marie Veronique Gentle Gel Cleanser ($55 USD for 4 oz bottle at CredoBeauty.com) Few products are as aptly named as the Marie Veronique Gentle Gel Cleanser. Indeed, the lightweight gel feels almost more like the finest, thinnest slippy silk gliding across the face, but thanks to the sugar surfactants that work to break down dirt and grime and excess oils, the skin always feels extra soft and clean after using. I find this a great cleanser for anyone with particularly sensitive or reactive skin but that still desires a refreshing cleanse albeit a gentle one. I find my skin can get super reactive due to inflammation caused by allergies, which spike during Spring. But apart from that, the scent is also quintessential Spring freshness with rose geranium, lavender, green tea, and vetiver. The smell of this combination is absolutely incredible and reminds me fondly of the classic Herbal Essences shampoos and conditioners of the mid-1990s if anyone recalls that, but in an all-natural version. More than smelling lovely, though, these ingredients provide a host of anti-inflammatory and/or antioxidant or other benefits for overall skin health and maintenance. Easily, this is becoming one of my favorite cleansers for the skin, especially to wake up in the morning, but for nighttime use, it will even take off light face makeup, though I would choose something else for the eyes. This cleanser will be something that I continue to repurchase to give myself a splash of Spring year-round
Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara: ($28 USD full size, $13 USD mini at Sephora.com) : Ilia's Limited Lash has quickly become a go-to mascara as of late. I first tried this product in researching mascaras for this article here, but in brief, it is a super lengthening mascara that can also make the lashes bushy and beefy if you layer it up and take advantage of the dual-sided brush (one end more of a comb-style and the other more of a traditional spoolie brush) to really reach and separate each last to amplify the look. Since I tend to be an eye makeup minimalist during the warmer months, having something to create major lashy impact secures the emphasis for the entire feature in one step, and this mascara provides a perfect effect.
Glossier Generation G Lipstick ($18 USD at glossier.com) : An oldie but a goodie in my collection, Glossier Generation G has been a go-to lip formula for soft, durable, effortless buildable lipcolor. It's slim slanted tip design is perfect for non-fussy application wherever you are, and the fresh, sheer painterly-style matte finish of all the available colors is perfect for adding something to the lips yet not looking too made-up. Shades Like (a sheer cool pink with mauve undertones) and Jam (a buildable purple berry) remain among my favorites, but newer edition of Punch( a flush of blue-toned red) is my number one pick. But all the colors themselves plus the soft, petaly velvet texture of the sheer matte finish perfectly evoke the image of blooming flowers. These four beauties really typify and help me feel ready for Spring, but these time of renewal always makes me keen to try more. What are some of your Spring go-to's?
