The YouTube beauty space is perhaps my favorite place to hear about products new and old and what is up in the beauty industry to date. However, I think perhaps the strongest, and maybe still far too underground, use of the platform is the highlighting of those who are true craftspeople with makeup, and of course, as Halloween approaches, my discovery of these talented artists must be shared with you.

My best friend and soul sister introduced my to another such channel recently, Madeyewlook. It is run by licensed esthetician self-taught makeup artist and body painter (who also runs her own body paint business also under the name Madeyewlook) , Lex Fleming for a decade now, and she does some of the most incredible transformations I have ever seen. She has done many classic characters for Halloween such as a few of the Disney Princesses, characters from American Horror Story, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice to name a few. But I also really appreciate her more inventive takes on characters such as imagining what Jafar from Aladdin might look like if he were a princess and the Genie if he were an evil trickster. Watch that video here for a feast of inspiration. The way she breaks down concepts step-by-step makes her videos very easy to follow in the way of using them as tutorials, and her sense of humor and always churning imagination are always a delight to watch as you see her evolve looks and expand on character ideas in real time.

At the Madeyewlook YouTube channel, it is truly Halloween every day-- a place for character, story, fun, paint, and creativity. I encourage you to check out the channel if you are in need for last-minute costume inspiration or just delight in the art and craft of makeup and character makeup for this time of year but even if you just want to transform yourself into a whole new character anytime at all. Makeup is for fun and reinvention, and the artist on this channel totally lives this out loud and I am inspired by her work to do more of the same.
