If there ever was a place on the Internet that celebrated the marriage of fashion and beauty, it would be the YouTube Channel Aly Art. Created by Russian-born singer and style maven Alyona Yarushina, Aly posts videos on virtually every topic relating to finding and cultivating one's best and most unique version of personal aesthetics.

A counterweight against many in the fashion world's obsession with universal trends, homogeneous makeup looks, and the perfect body, Aly's channel focuses on the intrinsic beauty to be found in every person-- every body type, face shape, coloring, and interpretation of style centered around those things. For example, I really appreciate Aly's clear and in-depth analysis of body shapes primarily using the famous Kibbe system of body type classification, and her tips have made shopping for me an easier and even more fun experience having given me insight as to what clothes will best flatter me and what about my body makes that so. For more about the Kibbe system and my evolutions with it, check out my article here. To make a long story shirt, though, it truly has been like a door to a whole new world has been flung wide open for me, and I have been loving playing and further curating my wardrobe and also by extension my accessories and even my makeup collection too based on my findings. Having more of an awareness of the baseline to my aesthetic in fashion, has made it easier to further refine the kinds of makeup and hairstyles that suit me best and go with my features.

If you would like further refinement of your style in the beauty department, though, Aly is equally fantastic at explaining what makeup techniques will look best on an individual or how to adapt virtually any skill in makeup to best suit someone based on their face shape and/or coloring. In fact, among my favorite of her videos I've watched so far is her take on contouring for longer faces, which is an element of makeup application I struggle with. You can watch it here, or check out her whole contouring series to find the one with the tips for your face shape.

I not only find Aly's channel to be a great educational resource for those discovering or, like me, ever-refining there look, I also look at it is an incredible inspiration to celebrate and bring out everyone's unique brand of beauty, merging it always with personal taste. These things all taken together are truly what is can be a groundbreaking starting point of expressing our true and complete self to the world, and, for me, this has been a really transformative, confidence-building, and gratifying process to embark on--not to mention, a super fun one! So if you are looking to go on a similar journey of yourself, definitely check out the Aly Art to get started!
