Whether the weather in your area is starting to show it now or not, Fall will soon be upon us. I could not be more pleased. Autumn is not only one of my favorite seasons, but is also where some of my favorite makeup styles and techniques really start to shine. I thought I'd share three with you today.
Adding More Blush: For me, Fall is the season of earthy, natural colors. For this reason, I don't find myself as inclined to reach for glowy highlighters or to play with the light and shade effects of contouring. Instead, I love the look of a wind-bitten cheek in keeping with the blustery breezes surrounding us during the season. Of course, deep roses, terrcottas, and plums are all color families fitting to this time of year, but even if you prefer a brighter or lighter color family like pinks and peaches on yourself, you can still amp up the effect by layering on more product for a more pronounced flush, especially on the roundest part of the apples of your cheeks.
Berry-Toned Eyeshadows: Pinkish, berry, and red eyeshadows are a fairly new phenomena for me in my personal makeup palette, but the effect can be beautiful on any eye color and skintone. On a warmer or more muted complexion, the colors look shadowy and sophisticated, and on cooler skins the effect is super rich and dramatic. These colors can be intimidating to work with at first as they can potentially leave a bloodshot or tired look to the eyes. To combat this, a good trick is to put pinkish tones shadows in the center of the lid and blend them outward and up towards the eyebrow instead of spreading them downward onto the lid. This gives a gorgeous rich, sunset-like halo shining down over the eyes that looks ethereal and rosy and is flattering to both the skin and any eye color/
Smudgy Eyeliner: A classic, gray-toned smoky eye always has been a signature look for me any day, but for the Fall, my favorite part of the smoky eye to do is the smudgy eyeliner on the bottom lashline. I find that sunlight during Fall gives everything around a softened and more hazy feel, so I enjoy harmonizing my makeup with these surroundings. This type of eyeliner look also is an easy way to try out colored lighter as the overall effect is more diffused. II'm loving the idea of a mossy emerald green or a rich khaki or plum at the moment. Also, smudgy eyeliner, in any color tone you wish, is also a great way to add some sultry drama to even the simplest and most natural-looking eyeshadow look, so it is also a great day-to-night makeup trick!
Fall is such a rich and beautiful time of year, and, as with any other, I feel so inspired to change things up with my look to suit the season. Like every year, I know that I will be experimenting with new things even from this list, and I cannot wait to share them with you. Happy Fall!
