Whether you are muddling your way through this year's Spring seasonal allergies or if yours come more in Fall or if the cold and flu season gets your goat every Winter, being sick is never a time when we feel or most polished or put together. More frustratingly, it seems with every wheeze and sneeze something about our look gets messed up. Yet, the power of makeup can truly do a lot to put some pep back into our step in any circumstance Here are three strategies that I find particularly helpful when I am not feeling my best.
Powder the Nose: As both a dry-skinned person and someone who usually prefers sheerer coverage to my base makeup, I do not often use powder. During a sickness where I am blowing my nose a lot, however, applying some powder to my nose not only provides additional coverage, but it also helps any concealer that I've put on to hide the inevitable red nose stay in place for longer.
Use Shimmer Eyeshadows: Over the last few seasons, my allergies have gotten worse and have, for the first time in my life, really start to affect my eyes. Since this has happened I have stopped wearing mascara and eyeliner during allergy season or when I have a cold altogether. However, to give my eyes some definition, , I rely a lot on shimmery powder eyeshadow. Shimmery eyeshadows tend to be less powdery than their more pigmented, matte counterparts and are less likely to smudge and run about if my eyes start to water. As an added bonus, the shimmery look also helps the eyes look a bit wider and more lively and awake, which is always helpful when we're sick.
Opt for Inexpensive, Moisturizing Lipcolors: I have mentioned in several posts that I am a true bold lipcolor fanatic and really believe in their ability to brighten the face and lift the mood quickly and effortlessly. This is certainly also true when I am ill, but I do try to make sure that my lipcolor choices are in formulas that are extra comfortable and hydrating since when we're sick, the lips are especially prone to being dry and cracking. Tinted lip balms are often my go-to, but more emollient lipsticks and sometimes even a sheer gloss will also work for more casual looks. Whatever I pick, though, I do try to stick with lower-cost options just in case the illness is prolonged or gets really bad. I don't want any excess bacteria to build up on the lipstick bullet or applicator, but I also don't want to feel too guilty about throwing a product away prematurely. Using cheaper and more readily available products during this time helps with this feeling and also makes it easier to replace them soon if I want to when I'm feeling better,
These are my three quick-tips for making it through with your makeup when sickness hits.
