If you have a fellow beauty product fan to buy for, it can sometimes be daunting to choose specific makeup, skincare, and other products for someone who has seemed to have tried and tested it all. On the one hand, you might think of something great for them to try, but you could also just as easily give them something they already have or something that doesn’t fit in with the carefully-curated collection of beauty things they have compiled for themselves. Similarly, if you yourself are the beauty lover making your wishlist, maybe you’d like a change of pace from receiving just product after product every year while still having new beauty-related things with which to play. These are some of my favorite “non product” items that I myself have ever gotten that have really enhanced my life as a lover of all things beauty.
Face Paint: The Story of Makeup book by Lisa Eldridge: Of all the books there are (and the many ones I’ve read) about style and makeup, this is one of my very favorites. Famed celebrity makeup artist, YouTube content creator, and Artistic Director of Lancome Cosmetics, Lisa Eldridge shares both her wealth of knowledge and knack for meticulous research in this beautiful book covering the history of makeup from Ancient cultures to the present day. Though it talks about nearly every era of time and many different cultures, the book does not move chronologically and instead just focuses on a particular kind of makeup (for example blush) or a particular technique, trend, beauty brand, or fashion and makeup icon at a time and tells its story. This I feel, let’s the book be a much lighter and more fun read as you can skim around to different topics as you please. Also included are some pictures of Lisa Eldridge’s own extensive collection of vintage makeup items, some dating back to the mid-1900s, which are a treat to see. This book gives wonderful insight to makeup as being a timeless yet ever-evolving art form, where things constantly innovate but also never really go out of style. It is an excellent read for both the makeup lover and the history buff alike. You can find it on Amazon or wherever books are sold.
Jerrybox Makeup Organizer Rotating Vanity Organizer and Storage Box: This is truly something that I did not know I would need until I had it. I received this as a birthday gift from my older sister who knows I quite typically, as we all often do, have to get ready on speed dial. This rotating carousel sits on my vanity and currently has every makeup, skincare, fragrance, and even some haircare items stored on it with room to spare. There is even also an area to drop brushes into where they will stand upright for easy drying after you wash them. Obviously, how much you can store on there will depend on the size and shape of your products, but the individual shelves are both wider and deeper than they appear at first glance, and I was truly gobsmacked as to how many, seemingly large or tall items it would fit with ease. It is truly so refreshing to have everything not just quickly accessible but to also have everything in plain sight. This way, I know longer have to hunt for a particular shade or rummage through drawers, which is not only a time saver but also allows me to keep a good handle on what all is in my collection so I know and truly use all that I own instead going for the most reachable things all the time. But whether you, or the person you are shopping for, uses the same core products in their routine, or has a massive collection, they will truly find this useful. You can also purchase this item on Amazon.
WEN by Chaz Dean Round Boar Bristle Hairbrush: Though I love and would highly recommend the WEN Round Boar Bristle brush, I would really recommend boar bristle brushes in general. Ethically-sourced boar bristle is a wonderful, sustainable material for brush bristles that is not only gentle on all hair types but is also great for adding shine to the hair, which is something we strive for no matter what our aesthetic. Additionally, with the WEN brushes, though, I also enjoy their round shape which is very good for brushing through wavy, lightly curled or textured hair and still maintaining the shape of the ringlets. But again, no matter what your hairstyle or natural texture, these gentle brushes are some of the best I've used. These can be found on ChazDean.com or are often sold in special-priced duos on QVC and QVC.com.
As much as it is to have a new, beautiful eyeshadow palette or try out the latest lipcolor formula, it is always nice to receive something totally unexpected even within the beauty realm. Whether you are looking to give a present or give ideas for a present for yourself, I hope these three suggestions have been helpful in thinking of new ways to enrich and expand beauty-loving enthusiasm for yourself and your loved ones.
